Yesterday we decided to grab the bikes and peddle to the Kayak rental, Lazy Dog at Hurricane Pier. It was about a 3 – 4 mile bike ride to and from the Pier. We had a fun filled 2 hours of kayaking. Initially, it was pretty scary because we had to come out of the mangroves and when we did, we hit the current which was pretty strong. We saw all sorts of birds. Ted tried to move a low lying branch from his path and….well, over he went!
We were able to eat lunch at the Pier. It was a great fish neither of us were familiar with,Cobia. We then biked back.
Went sight seeing through all the galleries around here. Beautiful art displays. We stopped under a heat lamp (pitiful isn’t it? ) and had a Rumrunner and Pina Colada. We couldn’t finish them. We’re certainly not good drinkers.
We then watched the beautiful sunset at Mallory Square with all the performers. There were acrobatics, musicians, flame jugglers, regular jugglers, human statues…. anything and everything.
Dinner was at Virgilio’s La Trattoria. Fantastic. Both of us had the Zuppa di Pesce as the main feature. It is an assortment of seafood and shellfish in a Mediterranean/saffron bouillaaisse with julienned vegetables. We shared the Involtini di Melanzana con Ricotta (Eggplant with ricotta cheese, roasted red peppers, baked in a tomato sauce with parm. cheese). I had the Insalata Paesano which was greens with gorgonzola, candied pecans, vegetables, in a lite balsamic dressing. Ted had the Insalata Misto, mixed greens in a lite italian.
Following dinner, we went into a Piano bar – but that was way too mellow for us. We went over to a wine bar where I quized Ted on sports trivia, we had a wonderful chit chat with the owner and a guest. What great night!
This morning, Wednesday, we have to head back to the cold of New York state. But had a good hot breakfast to get us underway.
