The Colgate Inn Hamilton, NY Party Time

July 4, 2009 by applec

It’s Saturday and HAPPY 4th of JULY!  There’s so much going on today around Utica and elsewhere. It’s exciting.

We started the day with a family walk. Since Shane and I went for a 6.75 mile run yesterday, then I worked shoulders, nothing too strenuous was in store for today.  Ted, Shane, and I played ball a little bit over at MVCC, then proceeded to walk 2 1/2 miles where Ted bailed on us and headed for home. Shane and I ran the rest of the planned route which turned into a total of 3.75 miles.  Since it’s a holiday and we will be heading up to my sister’s house on Kayuta Lake, I decided to get in 30 more minutes of exercise on the Elliptical Trainer.  Besides, I was feelin’ GOOD!

Now for a recap of Friday night eats and fun.  We headed out to Hamilton, New York, home of Colgate University.  The town was having their annual block party with food, music, and fun.

We decided to eat inside for more formal dining. We ended up in the bar area which seemed to be the only place they were serving last night.  The bar tender took the happy couples pic for prosperity…

And now the picture show…
Gosh this bread was good! Warm, moist, slightly chewy...wow!

I had the dinner salad - love the GREEN greens. Ted had that HUGO "Signature Salad" with iceburg, bacon, cheese slices...the waitress asked if that was his entree

Ted had the cajun style fish fry but instead of fry had the stir fry vegetable mix. It was SPICY HOT!

Ted’s spicy haddock fish fry was too over done with the cajun spices.  You couldn’t taste the haddock!

I had the haddock topped with crab and spinach with fresh peas and stir fry veg.

As for my entree, it was good, slightly over salted. We suspected that imitation crab was used. What a shame.
Then Joanne and Ted got weird.  We started trying to dip or raise only one eye brow. My brother in law, Sam, does it all the time.  This is what happened when we tried….
Trying to dip one eye brow. Ted can't do it!

Okay.. I can't do it either...but I think I was a bit closer to the dip and raise than Ted.

Dinner was okay..it was a nice, friendly restaurant.  In fact, when the bar tender opened a new bottle of wine to top of my glass, she pushed the cork in the bottle.  I settle for 3/4 glass of Sauvignon Blanc which was on the house. Then I ordered a Chardonnay, which is probably why things got “weird” with the eye brow challenge.  1 glass limit for me!
After dinner, we hopped in “sporty” and took a scenic ride around the college campus…beautiful…

We then headed along East Lake Road toward The Hamilton Inn, a B&B with fine dining…that’s for next time.  The drive is approximately 40 minutes from our home so not bad on a nice summer evening.  We even stopped to take a photo of some curious wild life….
Hold that pose!

Hold that pose!

There is an Alpaca farm along route 12 as well, but we zoomed past before I could ask Ted to stop.  I’ll save those photos for next time.
Happy 4th Everyone! Enjoy.

I did a 8k hike yesterday, it was so much fun and I feel so energized! Nothing like some exercise! I think you made a lovely choice for dinner, that salad looks great!
    Happy 4th of July!
