This is a half and half cake.  One side is yellow cake with strawberries and vanilla pudding filling and the other side is chocolate cake with raspberries and vanilla pudding filling.  The frosting is a sturdy buttercream because graduation parties are typically held outside and the cake may be exposed to a little summer heat.

Congratulations Michael. You made the grade!

This morning’s activities included a 4 mile walk/jog with Shane.  We saw a few people truckin’ along, but not as many people out there as usual. Surprising because it’s a nice mild morning.

The excitement happened at home as I sat here uploading the photos, I heard banging outside. It was the guys doing the stampcrete job.  Not a problem right? Wrong!  After Shane and I returned from our walk, I tossed my clothes into the wash.  I had to get on my hands and knees and make a bee line from the kitchen through the dining area (with a HUGE window I might add) and to the stairs.  Embarrassing but I don’t think anyone looked up.  Ted said that wasn’t as bad as when I got on the roof, outside our bedroom to clear the sticks off and I was only in my undies.  Hey! It was the back of the house and the only neighbor who would possibly see me was a doctor.  Nothing the Doc hadn’t seen before I’m sure.  Well … the woman on the roof in her underwear might be new but….you know what I mean.

This mornings healthy eats:  1/3 cup Cream of Rye + 1 TBS Coconut + 1 TBS Buckwheat Groats + 1 TBS Maple Sugar Quick oats, some raisins and pineapple banana Gallop-a-loozas.  1/2 an Orange.  Protein shake with vanilla VPX + 1/4 cup raspberries and 3 strawberries.

As usual, the alarm went off but every body part ached. We had the windows open in the bedroom and the sounds of the birds, the water flowing in the creek with a gentle breeze blowing was whispering  …”stay in bed…don’t get up…stay in bed”.  I listened to the the morning sounds and took natures advice.

Shane and I walked/ran for 4 miles on sore feet.  Breakfast was a smaller portion of Cream of Rye with cinnamon and raisins, a vanilla VPX shake with 6 stawberries (they were on their way out) and FUZE.

A Morning Daffodil

A Morning Daffodil

“Daffodils” (1804)

I WANDER’D lonely as a cloud

That floats on high o’er vales and hills,

When all at once I saw a crowd,

A host, of golden daffodils;

Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.

Continuous as the stars that shine

And twinkle on the Milky Way,

They stretch’d in never-ending line

Along the margin of a bay:

Ten thousand saw I at a glance,
Tossing their heads in sprightly dance.

The waves beside them danced; but they

Out-did the sparkling waves in glee:

A poet could not but be gay,

In such a jocund company:

I gazed — and gazed — but little thought
What wealth the show to me had brought:

For oft, when on my couch I lie

In vacant or in pensive mood,

They flash upon that inward eye

Which is the bliss of solitude;

And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils.

By William Wordsworth (1770-1850).

It was easy getting up for a good workout today. It was “30’s day”. This means… 30 minutes of Elliptical. 30 minutes of Upper Body*. 30 minutes of running with Shane.

*Breaking the workout into upper and lower body, two times a week is ok for a change. It probably won’t work for me over an extended time because 1. I’m not doing enough reps. 2. The weight is heavy but not as heavy as when focusing on one body part per day.  It is a good wake up call for the muscles though since they have gotten used to the normal routine.

Yesterday was beautiful.  This morning wasn’t bad. Later today and tomorrow…April Showers and then some. The real disappointment in the upcoming rain, gusty winds, and cold front due in on Saturday is that there is a 10K race in Rome called “Fort to Fort”.  It is my first 10K race.  I’m just wondering if it’s that important to me to get out there in the miserable cold, rain, and wind.  Full report tomorrow.

As for today, Shane and I enjoyed a nice slow 4.75 mile run down the Parkway.  It was a little windy but the temperatures were mild, 51 degrees. I over dressed and was seen jogging along, dog attached to waist, while stripping off  layers of clothing, gloves, and head band.  If a streaker report is submitted to the Utica newspaper, I’ll let you know.

I’m off to pick up some finished parts for work. Since it’s Friday, it’s money distribution day. That means there are bills to be paid. I submitted quite a number of quotes this week. Hope some of them turn into orders today. Fingers crossed.

Have a great day!

Red Eyes

The movie last night, “Nights in Rodanthe” was too sad for me.  It was good but I can’t appreciate movies that make me cry.  I sit there  trying to hide my tears and taking ever so little sniffs so Ted won’t hear.  But, inevitably, I have to get a tissue, blow my nose and my eyes are swollen and red, then he laughs at me.

On to brighter things… TGIF guys!

Up and away this morning, running 3.25 on the T/M (wanted to go longer but my stomach was saying ..”lets do something else”).  I worked the elliptical for 15 minutes. 30 minutes of shoulder and stomach training followed by a shorter walk with Shane, 2.65 miles.  The roads were very slick and it was a bit windy.

Working Shoulders and Abs:  4 sets between 12 – 15 – 20 repetitions each.  Prework out shake was 1 scoop JAY ROBB chocolate.

  • Dumbbell shoulder presses + ball crunches
  • Rear Delts + Lateral Raises
  • Cable shoulder presses + Front raises with dumbbells
  • Upright rows + Knee ups/leg lifts

Breakfast:

  • 1 scoop VPX protein with 1 TBS Powdered PB, Chocolate flavor
  • 1 packet Quaker Oats Regular Oatmeal + 1/2 banana and cinnamon
  • 1/2 grapefruit

The powdered peanut butter seemed to do a funky little “thing” on top of my shake. It still tasted good.

I’m here at work all day – no going home for lunch.  It’s Sue’s Friday off.  Wayne is in Cancun until tomorrow …let’s hear it..”poor Wayne!”.

It’s a busy day for us bees and better get a move on. Hope you have a super Friday the 13th.

Reminder: Tomorrow is Valentines day! Hope lots of love comes your way.
