My favorite things. Some are musical, some are not.  I collect carousel horses.  Here are just a few of my collection.

A Berry Good Breakfast

Happy Tuesday.  Quick post as I’m running late.

Last nights DVD was “The Lodger”.  It was a good movie. Nothing more than 2 1/2 stars but not too bad. The story line focuses on a serial killer imitating Jack The Ripper killings.  You continue to guess “who did it” throughout the movie.

DSCN1083The workout today was legs. Glorious legs.  4 sets x 12 reps.

  • Walking lunges and Leg Press
  • Dead Lifts and Led Curls
  • Leg Extensions and Seated Calf raises
  • Squats

The warm up was 32 minutes of ET. The post aerobic activity was a 42 minute walk-jog with Shane.

Today’s breakfast.

  • A Raspberry Delight Spiru-Tein Whey Shake: It had a wonderful strong smell of raspberry but was really disappointing when tasted. It lacked flavor.
  • 1/2 a grapefruit, 2 juicy strawberries, 1/3 cup blueberries
  • 1/4 cup steel cut oats with cinnamon and raisins.

DSCN1085Everyone…have a super Tuesday.

It seemed like the rain was falling all night. It wasn’t predicted to be a very pleasant day today, turning cold, possible snow.  Well, it wasn’t snowing. The rain was falling very lightly at 5:30 am and the wind was blowing.  Will it ever end?  The only thing to do is turn on all the lights in the house, crank the heat up as high as it will go, and make a Pina Colada, while laying on a towel in the middle of floor wearing only your bathing suit.  No, can’t do that. We have to think GREEN and that would be abusive use of resources.  Ok.  So put on a really thick sweater, light a fire, grab a glass of wine, turn on some soft jazz, lay back and relax.  Too early for  that.   Get dressed and go to work.  Thats it!

Instead of playing make-believe, a good workout was completed.  4 miles on the treadmill. 30 minutes of leg training, finishing with 50 crunches.  Shane and I went for a walk, just under 3 miles.

The wind is very creepy at times when it blows hard and makes the trees creek.  Bags and leaves come chasing from behind.  One can really get freaked out and then reassured and grateful to have a big German Shepherd walking along side.

Food for Thought….

A strawberry Jay Robb Protein Shake:

A hot bowl of Steel Cut Oats cooked with 2 Vanilla Hazelnut tea bags.  Raisins and chopped “Fancy” apple added to the bowl.  It was the fancy apple from Harry and David.  But it was quite unimpressive, a little soft, and not overly sweet.

The texture of steel cut oats is good if you are in the mood for plump, beads of flavor.  The added apple adds sweetness as do the raisins, but the raisins provide a sweet burst of chewy fruit.

The oats are not creamy in the Apple Crumbles version, just straight up oats with the background music of flavors.

Best hit the road and begin the day. Ignoring the weather and being grateful for our many blessings.

Have a great day and keep the people in Italy who have suffered misfortune and loss due to the quake in your thoughts and prayers.

A Nut Butter Kind of Day

Up an hour later this morning. Cut a banana in 1/2 and spread on 1 TBS of Naturally Nutty Vanilla Almond Butter then set off on a long, brisk walk, about 4 1/2 miles.  It’s very mild today and about 55 degrees.

For breakfast, I felt like oatmeal but with a little “chew”. That called for Bob’s Red Mill G/F Steel Cut Oats. I took 1/4 of the left over 1/2 of a banana and chopped it into the 1/4 cup dry oats with about 1/2 TBS of Natural Peanut Butter, 1/2 tsp cinnamon and 1 cup water.  Let it boil (we had spill over because I forgot about it while getting Shane’s breakfast) then let simmer while cleaning up for work/school/play…, about 20 minutes.  I don’t make my oatmeal creamy because sometimes my stomach doesn’t like creamy. So I flavor my oats with spices…1/2 tsp cinnamon and fruit, either dried or fresh.  I use water and make them more watery than most people.    Back to this mornings breakfast, the oats were accompanied by 1/2 a grapefruit and a Met-RX chocolate shake with the 1/4 of a banana remaining, added in.  Truly satisfying!

I must be feeling a bit “nutty” today because along with the AB on my banana, and the PB in my oats, I have 1TBS Naturally More Peanut Butter w/Flax to accompany my mid morning apple.  Hopefully the “nutty” doesn’t go to my brain but there is a good chance being that its Friday.   Have a great day!
