You will need a dipping sauce with this recipe. The tofu isn’t marinated and has no flavored liquid to absorb. It is rubbed with a coating to make it crisp when cooked. So choose your lip smackin’ sauce, bake up this tofu and enjoy:
- 14oz Lite Firm Tofu (I used Nu Soyu) – Press it out gently and let it sit under pressure for as long as possible.
- 1/4 cup Panko or TVP crumbs or bread crumbs
- 1 tbs chopped dried onion
- 1 tsp chinese 5 spice powder (or mix your own using equal parts: cinnamon, anise, fennel, ginger, cloves and pepper)
- 2 tsp soy sauce
- olive oil
Preheat oven to 375F. Cut tofu into a 1/4″ slices. Combine crumbs with onion and spice. Brush tofu slices with olive oil and press crumb mixture into both sides of tofu. Place slices in olive oil coated baking dish, sprinkle with soy sauce and bake 15 min. one side, flip it, and 15 minutes other side. Serve with dipping sauce.
I cooked butternut squash in the microwave for about 15 minutes. Boiled some broccoli with lemon zest and served with the tofu.
